Focused Support When Your Relationship Needs More Than Weekly Therapy
Sometimes weekly therapy isn’t enough, especially when your relationship feels strained, stuck, or time-sensitive.
The Two-Day Couples Intensive at Second Draft Counseling offers extended, structured time to work deeply and efficiently on your relationship. Instead of spreading the work across months of shorter sessions, we meet for two focused days designed to help you gain meaningful traction more quickly.
Many couples experience this format as a meaningful reset with a chance to step out of repetitive patterns and begin moving forward with deeper insight and hope.
When a Two-Day Intensive May Be a Good Fit
This format is often helpful when:
- Weekly therapy hasn’t created the momentum you hoped for
- You are in the midst of a relationship crisis
- Trust has been shaken by betrayal or infidelity
- Communication patterns feel deeply entrenched
- Your schedules make weekly sessions difficult
- You want a focused jump start for your relationship
- A significant relationship decision feels time-sensitive
Couples do not need to be in perfect alignment to begin an intensive, but both partners should be willing to engage in the process.
My Approach
Two-Day Intensives at Second Draft Counseling integrate:
- Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 3 trained)
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Attachment-informed and trauma-aware care
This combination allows us to work on both the practical and emotional layers of your relationship, while strengthening communication and addressing the deeper patterns that keep couples stuck.
Specialized Support Areas
I have advanced training through the Gottman Method in working with couples navigating:
Affairs & Betrayal Trauma
Structured trust rebuilding, accountability work, and careful pacing after infidelity.
Trauma-Informed Couples Work
Attention to emotional safety, nervous system regulation, and trauma-sensitive pacing.
Addiction & Recovery in Relationships
Support for couples impacted by substance use and the process of rebuilding reliability and trust.
These situations often benefit from the extended time and thoughtful structure that intensives provide.
How the Two-Day Intensive Works
Before we meet, you will complete a comprehensive relationship assessment so our time together can be focused and efficient.
The intensive typically includes:
- Pre-intensive assessment and questionnaires
- Two full days of structured couples work (approximately 5–6 hours per day)
- Individual check-ins as clinically appropriate
- Structured feedback and guidance
- Skill-building and guided conversations
- A clear plan for next steps
Many couples find that the extended format allows us to move beyond surface conversations and into more meaningful, productive work.
When Intensives May Not Be the Right Fit
Two-Day Intensives may not be appropriate when:
- There is ongoing domestic violence or safety concerns
- One partner is unwilling to participate voluntarily
- Active substance intoxication would interfere with the work
- Significant individual stabilization is needed first
If there is uncertainty, we can discuss fit during the consultation.
After the Intensive
Some couples feel ready to move forward on their own after the intensive. Others choose to continue with periodic or ongoing couples therapy to support the changes they’ve begun.
We will talk together about thoughtful next steps based on your goals.
