Many people will experience trauma in their lifetime, whether through loss, abuse, violence, accidents, or other painful events. While some are able to heal with time and support, others find that the effects linger. Trauma can leave behind deep emotional pain, fear, or confusion long after the event has passed.
Trauma often shows up in different ways
Avoidance: staying away from places, situations, or memories tied to the event; feeling anxious, numb, or guilty.
Re-experiencing: intrusive thoughts, nightmares, or flashbacks.
Hyperarousal: anger, irritability, hypervigilance, or difficulty sleeping.
Shifts in mood and thinking: loss of interest in things once enjoyed, difficulty remembering details, or changes in behavior since the trauma.
Therapy can help you heal from the effects of trauma. Unlike avoiding or pushing away memories, therapy provides a place to process what happened so that you can regain a sense of safety and begin to move forward.
At Second Draft Counseling, I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and attachment-focused approaches like Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Together, we’ll work to reduce the grip of traumatic memories, build tools for grounding, and help you reclaim a sense of stability and peace.
If the weight of past experiences is interfering with your life, you don’t have to carry it alone. I invite you to reach out for a consultation so we can begin the process of healing together.
